CHICAGO -- U.S. state of Missouri Governor Mike Parson has tested positive for COVID-19, the governor's office announced on Wednesday.

The 65-year-old governor of the U.S. Midwest state is the second U.S. governor known to have tested positive for COVID-19, after Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt, who contracted the virus in July. (US-Governor-COVID-19)

LAGOS -- Nigeria's police in southern Ebonyi on Wednesday said three more corpses had been recovered from the Akaeze-Ukwu river, where a bus plunged into the river on Sept. 18, bringing the death toll to 22.

The state police spokesperson told Xinhua in Abakaliki, the state capital, the 32-passenger bus was returning from a funeral in the Afikpo South area of neighboring Enugu State when the accident occurred. (Nigeria-Road Accident)

CAIRO -- Three Egyptian policemen and four prisoners were killed on Wednesday as the police foiled a jailbreak attempt at a prison in Cairo, state-run Al-Ahram news website reported, citing a security source.

The four convicts who were killed in the confrontation were sentenced to death and awaiting execution at Tora prison, where they tried to escape, according to the report. (Egypt-Jailbreak)

WASHINGTON -- The United States on Wednesday imposed new restriction measures against Cuba, an effort to further deny Havana sources of revenue.

The new measures will prohibit U.S. citizens from "lodging at certain properties in Cuba, importing Cuban-origin alcohol and tobacco products, attending or organizing professional meetings or conferences in Cuba, and participating in and organizing certain public performances, clinics, workshops, competitions, and exhibitions in Cuba," the Treasury Department said in a statement.
