BEIRUT -- Lebanon's chairman of the parliament's public works and transport committee Nazih Najem said Thursday that there are 49 "highly dangerous" containers at Beirut's port, Elnashra news website reported.

"Some of these containers have been at the port since 2009 and they have been neglected since then," Najem said, adding that investigations must be conducted to check why these containers have not been removed until this moment from the port.

GENEVA -- The national security law for China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) has filled up the gaping loopholes in safeguarding national security in HKSAR and responded to the urgent needs of people there, a senior Chinese diplomat said on Wednesday.

Addressing a virtual conference themed "Hong Kong: Enjoy Human Rights in a Safer Environment" organized by the Permanent Mission of China to the United Nations (UN) Office at Geneva, China's Permanent Representative to the UN Office at Geneva Chen Xu said the law helps to ensure that "one country, two systems" goes steady and that Hong Kong continues to enjoy prosperity and stability.

"For this reason, the law has won staunch support of people across the country, including people from all walks of life in Hong Kong," he said.

BRUSSELS -- Executive Vice President of the European Commission and acting Economy Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis has gone into quarantine as of Thursday after meeting someone infected with COVID-19.

"I was informed that someone I met earlier this week has tested positive for COVID-19," Dombrovskis tweeted late on Wednesday, noting that physical distancing was observed during his meeting with the person.

KUALA LUMPUR -- A China-Malaysia Digital Cultural Tourism Industry Forum was held online Thursday with participants from both countries sharing ideas on digital cooperation in cultural tourism Industry to boost understandings among the two peoples, especially the youths.
