Live COVID-19 updates: Cases rise to 5,818,570 in India, death toll reaches 92,290

BEIJING, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

NEW DELHI -- The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in India rose to 5,818,570, India's federal health ministry said Friday.

During the past 24 hours, 86,052 new cases were reported from across the country. Besides this 1,141 deaths were also recorded.

YANGON -- Myanmar reported 171 new infection cases of COVID-19 with five more deaths on Friday morning, said a release from the Health and Sports Ministry.

With the newly confirmed cases, the number of infection cases has risen to 8,515 so far.

SYDNEY -- A workplace saliva test pilot program has begun in Australia's State of Victoria to help better understand the logistics of continuous testing for COVID-19 in higher-risk workplaces.

As the worst-hit Australian state in the pandemic, Victoria is still imposing stage four restrictions in the capital city of Melbourne. The state has recorded 14 cases and 8 more deaths on Friday, taking the state's toll to 781 and the national figure to 869.

BEIJING -- No new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases were reported Thursday across the Chinese mainland, the National Health Commission said Friday.

Meanwhile, eight confirmed COVID-19 cases arriving from outside the mainland were reported, the commission said in its daily report. Enditem
