Zelensky declares Sept. 26 mourning day in Ukraine for plane crash victims

KIEV, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree announcing Sept. 26 the mourning day for the victims of the An-26 military airplane crash, the president's press service said Saturday.

According to the decree, flags must be flown at half-staff across Ukraine's entire territory, and all entertainment and concert events should be canceled.

"Yesterday we lost young cadets and experienced soldiers, who had a lifetime ahead of them ... It is difficult to find words to express the pain of this loss," said Zelensky.

The An-26 military aircraft with 27 people on board crashed on Friday. The plane was performing a training flight and landing at the airfield of a military base near the city of Chuguev, Kharkiv region. So far 26 people have died in the crash. Enditem
