LOS ANGELES -- A veteran lawyer from an international law firm said on Saturday that the Trump administration's ban on TikTok and the related series of lawsuits would discourage foreign companies from investing and operating in the United States.

"I believe the actions of the Trump administration in the TikTok case and some other matters may raise concerns among foreign tech companies about the openness of the U.S. markets and the traditional presumption that decisions would be made in an even-handed manner under the rule of law, " Dan Roules, managing partner of the Shanghai Office of Squire Patton Boggs, told Xinhua.

AYBAK, Afghanistan -- Two police officers and 14 Taliban militants were killed when fighting flared up in Afghanistan's northern Samangan province during Saturday night, a provincial police spokesman confirmed Sunday.

"The clashes began after militants armed with guns and propelled grenades attacked security checkpoints in surrounding areas of Dara-i-Suf Payyan and the neighboring Feruz Nakhcher districts. The Afghan Air Force, in accordance with active defense course of action, also supported the ground forces to defeat the militants," spokesman Munir Rahimi told Xinhua.

GAZA -- The Egyptian authorities on Sunday allowed a three-day opening of the Rafah Border Crossing with the Gaza Strip for the travel in both directions, Palestinian officials said.

"On the first day of the opening, the ministry has allowed patients, students, Egyptian and foreign passport holders, as well as those who have residency documents to travel through," the Hamas-run Ministry of Interior said in a press statement sent to Xinhua.
