BEIJING, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

ANKARA -- Two local potential vaccine studies in Turkey for the novel coronavirus have finalized their animal trial phase, Turkish Industry and Technology Minister Mustafa Varank said on Sunday.

"We made our applications to our Ministry of Health, and we want to start human trials after the necessary evaluation and certification of the facilities for the pilot production of these vaccines," the minister told semi-official Anadolu Agency.

MONTEVIDEO -- Uruguay's President Luis Lacalle Pou on Sunday urged voters to heed social distancing measures to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus as they head to the polls in regional and local elections.

"This is a different election for the whole country. It is very important that we all take care of ourselves," Lacalle told reporters after casting his vote in the southern city of Canelones, capital of the department of the same name.

TRIPOLI -- The National Center for Disease Control of Libya on Sunday reported 536 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total confirmed cases in the country so far to exceed 32,000.

The center said in a statement that it received a total of 2,512 suspected samples, of which 536 were tested positive.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in Libya currently is 32,364, including 18,128 recoveries and 520 deaths, the center confirmed.

OTTAWA -- Nearly 70 percent of Chinese students said they greatly or somewhat dislike online learning at Canadian universities, according to the latest report by Easy Group.

Less than 10 percent of students felt positive about online learning, with less than 5 percent enthusiastic, said the Disrupted Fall Semester of 2020 Survey Report.

RAMALLAH -- Palestine on Sunday recorded 620 new COVID-19 cases, raising the total number of infections in the Palestinian territories to 49,192.

The Palestinian health ministry also reported nine new deaths from the novel coronavirus, bringing the death toll to 343.

Palestine currently has 11,128 active cases in the West Bank, East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip, the ministry added.

LONDON -- Another 5,693 people in Britain have tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total number of coronavirus cases in the country to 434,969, according to official figures released Sunday.

The coronavirus-related deaths rose by 17 to 41,988, the official data showed. Enditem
