VIENTIANE, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- Lao Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith has voiced support for international cooperation under the United Nations framework, believing this international mechanism remains relevant to preserving world peace and addressing other international challenges, local daily Vientiane Times reported on Monday.

"I have strong confidence that multilateral cooperation, conflict resolution by peaceful means and cooperation for development under the UN Charter remain relevant mechanisms," he said in the Lao People's Democratic Republic (Lao PDR) statement delivered at the annual session of the UN General Assembly.

The Lao prime minister delivered the Lao PDR statement at the assembly via a pre-recorded video on Saturday.

Thongloun stressed that the world had learnt useful lessons from history, including the fact that unilateralism and the use of force to solve the problems had led to war and ushered in unwanted disaster for mankind.

According to the Lao PDR statement, the common challenges, which international community has to jointly address include climate change, adding that this world environment change had induced more frequent and severe natural disasters that brought huge impact on development, particularly food security and infrastructure development, according to the report.

The Lao prime minister said that there was a need for the international community to build society with climate resilience, adding that that adaptation is very important.

"In this connection, it requires that international community provides financial support and technological know-how to the least developed countries in order for them to be able to respond to the natural disaster," he said.

"On the same note, it also calls for concerted efforts from all countries around the world to consume natural resources in a sustainable manner, employ more alternative energy and follow the commitment under the Paris Agreement on reducing the greenhouse gas emission that contributed to the rising of world temperature," Thongloun said.
