MOGADISHU, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- Elite forces of the Somali National Army (SNA), Danab, killed seven Shabab militants and injured several others in a sting operation in southern Somalia, officials said on Monday.

Army chief Odowa Yusuf Rage told the state news agency that the operation started at midnight Sunday at Lego, in Lower Shabelle region, and ended early Monday.

"Our forces killed seven terrorist militants and injured several others at Lego area in Lower Shabelle region, about 200km south of Mogadishu, as we managed to successfully conduct well-planned, special operation with targets against the militants," Rage said.

Al-Shabab, the extremist group linked to al-Qaida, did not comment on the latest developments in Lower Shabelle but instead claimed to have carried out seven simultaneous attacks overnight against African Union and SNA bases in the southern region. Enditem
