TOKYO, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened lower Tuesday as issues previously bought to secure dividend payouts for the first half of the business year were offloaded once they became ex-dividend.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 142.44 points, or 0.61 percent, from Monday to 23,369.18.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 14.20 points, or 0.85 percent, at 1,647.73.

Electric power and gas, pharmaceutical, and oil and coal product issues comprised those that decline the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell. Enditem
