Brazil's COVID-19 death toll surpasses 142,000

RIO DE JANEIRO, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- Brazil reported 317 deaths from the COVID-19 pandemic in the last 24 hours, bringing the country's death toll to 142,058, the Ministry of Health said on Monday.

Meanwhile, about 13,155 new infections were reported, taking the total caseload to 4,745,464.

The state of Sao Paulo, the most populous state in the country, is the most affected, with 973,142 infections and 35,125 deaths, followed by Rio de Janeiro, with 262,006 infections and 18,291 deaths.

Currently, six states are witnessing a rise in deaths, while 11 have stable outbreaks and 10 are seeing a decline in new cases, the ministry added. Enditem
