JAKARTA -- Governor of People's Bank of China Yi Gang and his Indonesian counterpart Perry Warjiyo have agreed to establish cooperation on local currency settlement (LCS), according to the Indonesian central bank, Bank Indonesia.

The agreement was stated in a memorandum of understanding signed on Wednesday, Bank Indonesia (BI) said in an official statement here. BI further said that People's Bank of China and Bank Indonesia agreed to encourage the use of local currencies in the settlement of direct trade and investment. TOKYO -- Japan's Defense Ministry on Wednesday requested a record 5.49 trillion yen (51.93 billion U.S. dollars) budget for for the fiscal year starting in April 2021, with the request rising 3.3 percent from the initial budget for the current fiscal year through March 2021.

With the ministry eyeing allocations for enhancing capabilities in outer space, cyberspace as well as financing for land-based infrastructure and hardware, Japan's defense spending under new Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga is looking set to rise for the ninth straight year. (Japan-Defense budget)

NEW DELHI -- The death toll due to COVID-19 in India is inching towards the 100,000-mark, reaching 97,497 on Wednesday.

As many as 1,179 deaths were registered during the past 24 hours, according to the data released by the federal health ministry. Meanwhile, 80,472 new COVID-19 cases took the total tally to 6,225,763, according to the data. (India-COVID-19-Toll)

DHAKA -- Bangladesh recorded 1,436 new confirmed COVID-19 cases and 32 more deaths on Wednesday, bringing its total tally to 363,479 with 5,251 deaths, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said.

The official data showed 13,404 samples were tested in the last 24 hours across Bangladesh. The total number of recovered patients in the country stood at 275,487 including 1,789 new recoveries on Wednesday, said the DGHS. (Bangladesh-COVID-19-Cases) Enditem
