ANKARA -- Turkey and Greece reached a common understanding of the "general principles" in military delegations meeting at the NATO headquarters, which aimed at de-escalation in the Eastern Mediterranean, the Turkish Defense Ministry said on Thursday.

"As a result of meetings between military delegations at NATO Headquarters, Turkey and Greece have reached a common understanding of the general principles. The next meeting, where the technical details of the coordination to be carried out for the safe functioning of the elements in the Eastern Mediterranean will be discussed, is planned to be held at NATO Headquarters on Oct. 5, 2020," said the ministry in a written statement. KHARTOUM -- Deputy Chairman of Sudan's Sovereign Council Mohamed Hamdan Daqlu on Thursday arrived in South Sudan's capital of Juba to attend the signing ceremony of the final peace deal between the Sudanese government and armed groups slated for Oct. 3.

CAIRO -- Egyptian and French naval forces held on Thursday a joint military exercise in the Mediterranean Sea, said the Egyptian army.

"The exercise included various training activities, including training on security and protection of an important area against the threat of submarines at night, electronic warfare, defense against atypical threats, as well as various sailing formations," Egyptian military spokesman Tamer al-Refai said in a statement. JERUSALEM -- Israel on Thursday confirmed that it has agreed to U.S.-brokered negotiations with Lebanon aimed at ending a long-time dispute over the maritime border between the two sides.
