PHNOM PENH, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia confirmed one new imported case of COVID-19 on Friday, raising the total number of infections in the kingdom to 278, said a Ministry of Health (MoH)'s press statement.

The latest case was found on a 33-year-old Cambodian woman, who arrived in Phnom Penh, capital of Cambodia, on Sept. 16 from the United States, with a connecting flight in China's Taiwan, the statement said.

The woman was first allowed to quarantine for 14 days at her home in northwest Battambang provincial after testing negative for the COVID-19 upon her arrival, it said.

"However, on the 13th day of home quarantine, her samples were taken for a second test and the result showed (on Thursday) that she turned out to be positive for the COVID-19," the statement said.

Currently, she is undergoing treatment at the Battambang provincial referral hospital, it said.

According to the statement, at least seven persons - five family members and two friends - had direct contact with the patient during her home quarantine.

The Southeast Asian nation has so far recorded a total of 278 confirmed COVID-19 cases, it said, adding that none have died and 275 have recovered. Enditem
