JALALABAD, Afghanistan -- At least 13 people were killed and 30 others wounded in a Taliban car bomb explosion and ensuing gunfight outside a district office in Afghanistan's eastern Nangarhar province on Saturday, a local government spokesman said.

"An enemy detonated a car bomb outside intelligence agency office, near the district main office in Shinwar district roughly at 12:20 p.m. local time. After a while, several armed enemies tired to enter the offices, but the security forces responded to the attackers, killing all assailants," spokesman Attahullah Khogiani told Xinhua. MANILA -- The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Philippines surged to 319,330 after the Department of Health (DOH) reported 2,674 new daily cases on Saturday.
