BEIJING, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

RIO DE JANEIRO -- Brazil's COVID-19 death toll surpassed 146,000 after 365 more patients died of the disease in the last 24 hours, raising the total number to 146,352, the Health Ministry said Sunday. Meanwhile, 8,456 new infections were reported in the past day, taking the nationwide count to 4,915,289, it said.

CANBERRA -- The Australian government said will fast-track infrastructure projects worth billions of dollars to stimulate economic growth amid the COVID-19 recession.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack on Monday announced a 7.5-billion-Australian dollar (5.3-billion-U.S. dollar) investment in "shovel-ready" transport infrastructure projects to create thousands of jobs.

BOGOTA -- The COVID-19 infections in Colombia rose to 855,052 in the past 24 hours after tests detected 6,905 new cases, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection said Sunday.

The country's death toll climbed to 26,712 after 156 more fatalities were reported over the past day.

BUENOS AIRES -- Argentina's total COVID-19 infections is approaching 800,000, while national death toll has surpassed 21,000, the country's health ministry said Sunday.

According to the ministry, 7,668 new infections and 223 new deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, taking the total caseload and death toll to 798,486 and 21,018, respectively.

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia on Monday reported two new imported COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of infections in the kingdom to 280, said a Health Ministry's press statement.

One case was a 27-year-old French man, who arrived in Phnom Penh, capital of Cambodia, on Sept. 20 from France, with a connecting flight in Singapore, the statement said.

BEIJING -- No new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases were reported Sunday across the Chinese mainland, the National Health Commission said Monday.

A total of 20 confirmed cases arriving from outside the mainland were reported, the commission said in its daily report.

No new suspected cases or deaths related to the disease were reported, the commission said.

NEW YORK -- The total number of COVID-19 cases in the United States surpassed 7.4 million on Sunday, according to the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University.

U.S. COVID-19 case count rose to 7,411,716, with the national death toll reaching 209,720, as of 3:23 p.m. local time (1923 GMT), according to the CSSE. Enditem
