BEIJING, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

COLOMBO -- The number of COVID-19 cases in Sri Lanka surpassed 3,900 on Tuesday after a new cluster detected on the outskirts of capital Colombo recorded over 500 patients within 48 hours, the government information department said.

As of Tuesday noon, the total COVID-19 cases jumped to 3,979 after 567 new patients tested positive from the Minuwangoda area in the Gampaha district, leading to authorities imposing a curfew in Gampaha from Tuesday evening.

TBILISI -- Georgia reported 549 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, bringing its total to 9,245.

Of the 549 new cases, 348 were confirmed in the western Adjara region, the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health (NCDC) said.

CAIRO -- Egypt reported late on Monday 98 new infections and nine deaths of COVID-19, bringing the total cases registered in the country to 103,781, including 5,990 deaths, said the Egyptian Health Ministry.

The new cases are the lowest daily infections confirmed in Egypt since Aug. 22, when 89 cases were reported.

NEW DELHI -- With 61,267 new cases in the past 24 hours, India's COVID-19 tally reached 6,685,082, said the latest data released by the federal health ministry on Tuesday.

As many as 884 deaths were registered across the country since Monday morning, taking the total death toll to 103,569.

RIO DE JANEIRO -- Brazil announced on Monday it has extended a ban on foreigners entering by land, sea or river, in a bid to contain its COVID-19 outbreak.

Arrival by air has been allowed since Sept. 25.

BEIJING -- No new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases were reported Monday across the Chinese mainland, the National Health Commission said Tuesday.

A total of 12 confirmed cases arriving from outside the mainland were reported, the commission said in its daily report.

WELLINGTON -- New Zealand reported three new imported cases of COVID-19 from managed isolation on Tuesday and no new cases were reported in the community.

The first case reported arrived from India on Sept. 26 and was retested after returning a negative result at their routine test around day 3 of their time in managed isolation because they were a contact of a previously reported case, according to the Ministry of Health. Enditem
