Two hospitalized after ammunition depot explodes in Russia's Ryazan

MOSCOW, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- A Russian ammunition storage site in the country's western Ryazan region caught fire on Wednesday, leaving two people hospitalized, the TASS news agency reported.

The fire started to spread from burning grass near the artillery ammunition storage site through gusts of wind, according to TASS.

"According to preliminary information, more than 1,600 people have been evacuated from 14 settlements," the Russian Emergencies Ministry said in a statement.

"More than 430 personnel are currently working on the site of the fire with 57 units of equipment and one fire train," the ministry said in a separate statement. Enditem
