AFC Champions League East Zone matches to be staged in Doha

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- The AFC Champions League East Zone matches are to be played in Doha, Qatar after an agreement was reached with the Qatar Football Association (QFA), the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) said, on Friday.

The AFC Champions League East Zone, will be played from Nov. 18 to Dec. 13, following the successful completion of the AFC Champions League West Zone matches in Qatar, the football governing body said in a statement.

AFC General Secretary Windsor John said the body was grateful for the support of QFA and is looking forward to the remaining exciting matches in Asia's premier club competition.

"Through the planning and delivery of these extremely strict and effective protocols, I am delighted that we will be able to successfully complete the AFC Champions League, despite the enormous challenges in this unprecedented year, as we promised all our stakeholders," he said.

The AFC Champions League East Zone will resume from the group stage and continue through the Round of 16 to the quarter-finals and semi-finals.

The venue for the finals, which is scheduled to be played on Dec. 19, will be confirmed in due course, AFC said. Enditem
