BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed higher Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 1.68 percent at 3,272.08 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 2.96 percent higher at 13,289.26 points.

The combined turnover of the two bourses expanded to 711.3 billion yuan (about 104.9 billion U.S. dollars) from 540 billion yuan the previous trading day.

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index on Friday moved down 7.69 points, or 0.60 percent to close at 1,267.14 points.

Some 19.63 billion shares worth 51.30 billion baht (about 1.66 billion U.S. dollars) changed hands.

MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed higher on Friday.

The benchmark S&P, BSE Sensex closed at 40,509.49, 326.82 points or 0.81 percent up compared to its previous close at 40,182.67.

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia's stocks finished higher on Friday, with the Cambodia Securities Exchange (CSX) Index up 0.68 point, or 0.1 percent, to close at 658.24 points.

A total of 6,071 shares worth 78.7 million riels (19,164 U.S. dollars) was traded, the CSX said, adding that 53 percent of the traded shares belonged to ACLEDA Bank Plc (ABC), 18 percent to Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority (PWSA), and 14 percent to Sihanoukville Autonomous Port (PAS).

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks closed lower on Friday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) going down 0.4 percent, or 10.15 points, to close at 2.532.96.

A total of 1.07 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 844.02 million Singapore dollars (about 622.43 million U.S. dollars). Losers outnumbered gainers by 212 to 173.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX-Index, closed at 136.91 points on Friday, up 1.30 points or 0.96 percent from the previous trading session.

More than 105.9 million shares worth roughly 1.7 trillion Vietnamese dong (nearly 73 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Friday. Specifically, foreign investors bought approximately 40.2 million shares valued at almost 961.4 billion Vietnamese dong (41.8 million U.S. dollars), and sold over 40.1 million shares valued at close to 960.9 billion Vietnamese dong (41.8 million U.S. dollars).

VIENTIANE -- The Lao stock market closed on Friday with a decrease of 1.31 percent compared to the previous trading day.

The Lao Securities Exchange composite index decreased by 7.63 points, reaching 576.97 points after closing.

A total of 5,100 shares worth about 14,920 Lao kip (nearly 1,615 U.S. dollars) changed hand at the stock market.

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh City bourse in southern Vietnam, closed at 924.00 points on Friday, up 5.16 points or 0.56 percent against the previous trading day.

Some 388.1 million shares worth over 6.6 trillion Vietnamese dong (288.9 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed down 74.22 points, or 0.31 percent, to 24,119.13 points on Friday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 24,059.29 and 24,343.81. Turnover totaled 112.55 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 14.52 billion U.S. dollars).

SYDNEY -- The Australian share market surged 5.40 percent this week and hit a fresh five-week high, despite finishing flat on Friday.
