MAPUTO, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- European Union will support Mozambique in its efforts to fight terrorism in the country's northern region that has displaced more than 380,000 people, EU's ambassador to Mozambique Antonio Sanchez Gaspar said on Friday.
According to the ambassador who was speaking to the press after a meeting with Mozambican foreign minister Veronica Macamo, the support will address logistics, training and technical assistance to the armed forces, assistance to humanitarian emergency and the development of the northern region of the country.
"EU confirms its solidarity with the people of Mozambique and its government to the current status of armed violence that the country has been dealing with in the northern region. EU also confirms all its support to fight terrorism and to the population, so we will double and intensify all our efforts to the efforts of the government," said the ambassador.
EU's confirmation of support was a response in less than a month after the Mozambican government issued its request for help in the fight against terrorism that has been destabilizing the country's northern region for years. Enditem
