BEIJING, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

TEHRAN -- Iran's health ministry reported 4,142 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, raising the total confirmed cases in the country to 492,378.

The pandemic has so far taken 28,098 lives in Iran, up by 210 in the past 24 hours, said Sima Sadat Lari, spokeswoman for the Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education, during her daily briefing.

A total of 401,379 people have recovered from the disease and been discharged from hospitals, while 4,392 remain in intensive care units.

PRAGUE -- The Czech Republic reported 5,394 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, a new daily high for the third day in a row, according to the Health Ministry on Friday.

The overall number of cases has reached 100,757 in the country with a population of 10.7 million, the ministry's data showed, as the Czech Republic grapples with the fastest-growing per-capita outbreak in Europe.

KUWAIT CITY -- Kuwait on Friday reported 635 new COVID-19 cases and seven more deaths, raising the tally of infections to 110,076 and the death toll to 649, the Health Ministry said in a statement.

Currently, 7,403 patients are receiving treatment, including 125 in ICU, according to the statement.

BAGHDAD -- The Iraqi Health Ministry reported on Friday 3,214 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the nationwide infections to 397,780.

The new cases included 1,381 in the Iraqi capital Baghdad, 333 in Duhok, 299 in Sulaimaniyah, and 206 in Erbil, while the other cases were detected in the other provinces, the ministry said in a statement.

NAIROBI -- Internet subscriptions in Kenya rose about 5.1 percent between April and June as demand for the service surged amid stay-at-home measures due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Subscriptions increased to 40.9 million in the quarter ending June from 38.9 million in the period ending March, latest industry report from the Communication Authority of Kenya (CA) released Friday shows.

BEIJING -- China hopes certain U.S. politicians will stop blaming other countries over responses to the COVID-19 pandemic, as blaming others will not drive COVID-19 away or save the sick, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said Friday.

Spokesperson Hua Chunying's remarks came after certain U.S. politicians made accusations against China over the pandemic during a meeting in Tokyo with the foreign ministers of Japan, India and Australia.

TAIPEI -- Taiwan has reported new COVID-19 cases for a fifth consecutive day, with its total infections' figure rising to 527, the island's epidemic monitoring agency said on Friday.

Three people -- two Filipino nationals and one Ukrainian -- tested positive for the virus on Friday on the island, according to a statement from the agency.

KATHMANDU -- COVID-19 cases in Nepal surpassed 100,000 mark on Friday, Nepal's Ministry of Health and Population said.

"With new 2,059 cases, COVID-19 cases in the country reached 100,676," said Jageshwor Gautam, spokesperson at the health ministry at a press meet on Friday.

YANGON -- Myanmar reported 1,461 new infection cases of COVID-19 and 31 more deaths on Friday, according to a daily release from the Health and Sports Ministry.

The number of infection cases has increased to 23,906 and the death toll reached 566 as of Friday, the ministry's release said.

TBILISI -- Georgia reported 527 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, bringing its total to 10,752.

A total of 190 of the 527 new cases were confirmed in the western Adjara region, the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health said. Enditem
