Live COVID-19 updates: COVID-19 new cases top 20,000 in France

BEIJING, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

PARIS -- French health authorities on Friday reported 20,339 new coronavirus infections in one day, a fresh record since the outbreak of the epidemic.

The new daily tally is up from 18,129 new cases reported on Thursday, and higher than the previous high of 18,746 registered two days ago.

ALGIERS -- Algeria on Friday reported 146 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total tally of infections to 52,804, the Ministry of Health said.

The ministry also announced six new fatalities from the novel coronavirus, raising the country's death toll to 1,789.

TRIPOLI -- The National Center for Disease Control of Libya on Friday reported 1,076 new COVID-19 cases, the second highest daily increase so far, raising the total number in the country to 41,368.

The new cases were detected after 3,694 suspected samples were tested, the Center said in a statement.

BEIRUT -- Lebanon's number of COVID-19 cases increased on Friday by 1,426 to 51,170 while the death toll went up by 11 to 450, the Health Ministry said.

Caretaker Health Minister Hamad Hassan said private hospitals will soon open departments for the fight against COVID-19 to offer needed services to an increasing number of infected patients according his agreement with President of the Syndicate of Private Hospitals Suleiman Haroun.

RABAT -- Morocco registered on Friday record daily high of 3,445 COVID-19 cases, bringing the tally to 146,398.

The death toll rose by 44 to 2,530, while 425 patients are in intensive care units, said the health ministry in a press release.

JERUSALEM -- Israel's Ministry of Health reported 2,522 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, bringing the total to 287,858.

The number of death cases reached 1,886, with 22 new fatalities, while the number of patients in serious condition decreased from 865 to 860, out of 1,524 patients currently hospitalized.

DUBAI -- The United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Friday announced 1,075 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total confirmed cases in the country to 104,004.

At the same time, 1,424 more patients have recovered from the virus, taking the tally of recoveries in the UAE to 94,903, UAE's Ministry of Health and Prevention said. Enditem
