RIO DE JANEIRO, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- Former Real Madrid and Brazil forward Robinho is close to rejoining his former club Santos, according to widespread media reports in the South American country.
Images of the 36-year-old visiting the Brazilian Serie A club's Rei Pele training complex circulated on social media on Saturday amid reports that negotiations were at an advanced stage.
According to Globo Esporte, Robinho has agreed to receive a symbolic salary of less than two U.S. dollars a month.
Robinho, who parted ways with Turkish side Istanbul Basaksehi in August, played for Santos from 2002 to 2005 and returned for a six-month loan spell in 2010.
He spent another 12 months at the club in 2014-15 - also on loan - before joining Guangzhou Evergrande of the Chinese Super League.
Capped 100 times for Brazil, Robinho has also had spells with Manchester City, AC Milan, Atletico Mineiro and Sivasspor over a professional career spanning almost two decades.
In 2017, an Italian court sentenced Robinho to nine years in prison for participating in the 2013 gang rape of a woman in Milan. The punishment was put on hold pending the completion of the appeals process. Enditem
