BANGKOK -- Thailand's Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) said that 18 passengers have been confirmed dead in the bus-train collision which occurred in Central Thailand's Chachoengsao Province earlier Sunday.

Sutthathip, a supervisor at the DDPM, told Xinhua that two out of the initially presumed 20 dead passengers had been resuscitated at Buddhasothorn Hospital in Chachoengsao. (Thailand-Bus Train Collision)

TEHRAN -- At least five people were killed in a gas explosion in Iran's southwestern city of Ahvaz on Sunday, Iranian Student News Agency (ISNA) reported.

In the incident which took place in a two-storey residential building in the Ameri market of Ahvaz, nine others were also injured, Ebrahim Qanbari, head of the firefighting organization of Ahvaz municipality told ISNA. (Iran-Gas explosion)

BAKU -- Azerbaijan Sunday accused Armenia of violating a ceasefire by attacking its second largest city of Ganja and resulting in heavy civilian casualties.

Shells from the Armenian side fell on residential buildings in Ganja city in northwestern Azerbaijan, which killed five civilians and wounded 17 others, reported Azerbaijan's state-run news agency AZERTAC, citing the country's emergency authority as saying. (Azerbaijan-Armenia-Ganja Attack)

VILNIUS -- The first round of the Lithuanian parliamentary elections began here on Sunday to elect 141 members of the Baltic country's parliament for a four-year term.
