MAPUTO, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- Mozambique registered 157 more cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, bringing the cumulative number of confirmed cases to 10,001, the country's Ministry of Health (MISAU) said in a statement on Sunday.

Since the first infection of COVID-19 was found in late March, it took the country nearly six months to register its first 5,000 cases and only one month to have the second 5,000.

"We want to lament the death of a coronavirus-infected patient in the last 24 hours in the city of Maputo. This is a 67-year-old female patient, with Mozambican nationality," says MISAU, adding that the number of deaths rose to 71.

Among the total cases, 9,702 are locally transmitted and 299 are imported, of which 7338 have already recovered, according to the statement. Enditem
