KUALA LUMPUR -- Malaysian Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin held a virtual meeting with visiting Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi here Tuesday as both sides agreed to strengthen COVID-19 response and post-pandemic cooperation.

Wang conveyed to Muhyiddin greetings from Chinese leaders and expressed his appreciation for the meeting with Muhyiddin in home quarantine. (Malaysia-China-Meeting)

MUMBAI -- Indian economy, hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic, is projected to contract at a higher of 10.3 percent in 2020 than the earlier prediction of 4.5 percent, according to a report by International Monetary Fund (IMF) Tuesday.

In its World Economic Outlook for October titled "A long and difficult ascent", IMF said that revisions to the forecast are particularly large for Asia's third largest economy, where gross domestic product (GDP) contracted much more severely than expected in the second quarter. BANGKOK -- Thailand's Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob said Tuesday that he issued an immediate order to have all railway crossings across the country, to be installed with barriers and signals.

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodian authorities have been evacuating about 1,612 inmates from a prison in Northwest Banteay Meanchey province on Tuesday after heavy flooding has filled the cells, a prison chief said.

"Some 811 of the prisoners were already taken by bus from the flooded Banteay Meanchey provincial prison to the Siem Reap provincial prison on Tuesday morning," Ung Siphan, chief of the Banteay Meanchey provincial prison, told Xinhua via telephone. (Cambodia-Floods-Prisoner) Enditem
