TOKYO, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks lost ground Wednesday morning as Wall Street's weak lead overnight dented sentiment, with a deadlock in fiscal stimulus negotiations in Washington and drugmakers pausing COVID-19 vaccine trials and antibody treatments causing consternation.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 12.43 points, or 0.05 percent, from Tuesday to 23,589.35.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 8.41 points, or 0.51 percent, at 1,640.69.

Air transportation and mining issues led notable decliners, while retail and precision instrument issues comprised those that gained the most by the morning break. Enditem
