SOFIA, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- The Bulgarian Health Ministry on Thursday morning reported a record high of 819 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, taking its national tally to 26,593.

The previous daily record of 785 new cases was reported on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the country's COVID-19 death toll has reached 929 after six more patients died during the same period, the ministry said.

It also said 1,380 patients are currently hospitalized, with 67 in intensive care, and the number of infected medical workers has reached 1,440.

The ministry added that 350 people have recovered in the last 24 hours, raising the country's total recoveries to 16,489.

Bulgaria has seen an upward trend in the spread of COVID-19 recently. However, Health Minister Kostadin Angelov said on Wednesday that the country has no intention of tightening anti-epidemic measures and called on people to focus on the measures currently in place, in particular the wearing of face masks in public indoor spaces.
