Roundup: India's tally surpasses 7.3 mln, Indonesia reports 4,411 new cases

HONG KONG, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- Confirmed COVID-19 cases continued to climb in Asia-Pacific on Thursday as India recorded 67,708 new cases, taking the total to 7,307,097, said the latest data released by India's health ministry.

India's death toll rose to 111,266, as 680 deaths were reported over the past 24 hours across the country, showed the ministry's data.

There are 812,390 active cases in the country, while 6,383,441 people have been successfully cured and discharged.

Indonesia recorded 4,411 new confirmed cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the total tally to 349,160, the health ministry said.

Meanwhile, it reported 112 more deaths to raise the country's death toll from the coronavirus pandemic to 12,268.

According to the ministry, 5,810 more people were discharged from hospitals, raising the total number of recoveries to 273,661.

The Philippines reported 2,261 new daily cases, pushing the total number of confirmed cases in the Southeast Asian country to 348,698.

The Philippines' Department of Health (DOH) said the number of recoveries also rose to 294,161 after 385 more patients recovered. Meanwhile, 50 more patients died from the viral disease, bringing the death toll to 6,497.

South Korea reported 110 more cases as of midnight Wednesday compared to 24 hours ago, raising the total number of infections to 24,988.

The daily caseload rose above 100 after recording 84 in the previous day owing to small cluster infections in Seoul and its surrounding Gyeonggi province as well as in the southeastern port city of Busan.

Of the new cases, 22 were Seoul residents and six were people residing in Gyeonggi province. Fifty-four came from Busan residents.

Fifteen were imported from overseas, lifting the combined figure to 3,470.

One more death was confirmed, leaving the death toll at 439. The total fatality rate stood at 1.76 percent.

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Maldives has crossed the 11,000 mark, local media reported.

According to the Health Protection Agency (HPA), 69 new cases of COVID-19 were detected on Wednesday, raising the country's total case count to 11,062.

The Maldives has 1,147 active COVID-19 cases spread across 19 islands and 19 resorts. So far, 9,880 patients have recovered from the virus while 35 have died. Enditem
