UNITED NATIONS -- United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Thursday called for efforts to invest in rural women and help them build resilience to future crises.

In a message for the International Day of Rural Women, which falls on Oct. 15, the UN chief said that "together, we must invest in rural women so that they have access to the healthcare, social protection and agricultural information services they need."

SANTIAGO -- The Chilean Ministry of Health on Thursday called on citizens to continue to follow measures for preventing the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) ahead of possible demonstrations that will mark the first anniversary of the wave of social unrest that began in the country on Oct. 18, 2019.

NEW YORK -- New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo on Thursday released a letter from the National Governors Association (NGA), asking U.S. President Donald Trump for a meeting to discuss how a vaccination program would be conducted and what the respective roles of the federal and state governments are in this regard.

"States have been at the forefront of the fight against COVID-19, working tirelessly to protect and care for our residents during this global pandemic. Governors are willing to assist your Administration's efforts to ensure a national vaccination campaign is implemented smoothly and efficiently," read the letter.

BEIRUT -- Lebanese President Michel Aoun emphasized on Friday the keenness of Lebanon to reach fair solutions to maritime border demarcation with Israel, a statement by the Lebanese Presidency reported.
