WELLINGTON -- The ongoing New Zealand election vote counts showed the ruling Labor Party won a landslide victory on Saturday, with Jacinda Ardern set to serve a second term as prime minister, preliminary results showed.

With more than 98 percent of the votes counted, the Labor Party won 49 percent of the vote, which transfer to 64 seats in the 120-member Congress in a Mixed-Member Proportional voting system, with the opposition National Party lagging behind at 27 percent, or 35 seats, according to the Electoral Commission. KUALA LUMPUR -- Malaysia reported 869 new COVID-19 infections in the highest daily spike since the outbreak, the Health Ministry said on Saturday, bringing the national total to 19,627.

Health Ministry Director-General Noor Hisham Abdullah told a press briefing that all the new cases are local transmissions.

CHARIKAR, Afghanistan -- Three policemen including a senior officer were killed and another was injured as a roadside bomb struck a police vehicle in east Afghanistan's Parwan province on Saturday, provincial government spokesperson Wahida Shahkar said.

"The deadly roadside bombing took place in the morning rush hour in Salang district and as a result three police personnel including deputy to district police chief were killed and another one injured," Shahkar told Xinhua. (Afghanistan-Bomb)

HANOI -- Natural disasters have left 62 people dead and five others missing in Vietnam's northern and central regions over the past few days, the country's Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control said on Saturday.

NEW DELHI -- India's COVID-19 tally reached 7,432,680 and death toll 112,998 on Saturday, as 62,212 new cases and 837 deaths were reported over the past 24 hours across the country, said the latest data released by the federal health ministry.
