BEIJING, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

RIO DE JANEIRO -- Brazil registered 461 new deaths from the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours, bringing the death toll to 153,675, the Health Ministry said on Saturday.

The ministry said that 24,062 more cases were registered, bringing the nationwide count to 5,224,362.

BEIJING -- No new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases were reported Saturday across the Chinese mainland, the National Health Commission said Sunday.

A total of 13 confirmed cases arriving from outside the mainland were reported, the commission said in its daily report.

PARIS -- France reported 32,427 COVID-19 infections in the last 24 hours, a new high of daily tally, according to the data released by the Public Health Agency on Saturday.

The previous daily record, at 30,621 cases, was set on Thursday.

NEW YORK -- More than 50 works of Chen Dongfan, a Chinese painter living in New York City, which were created during the time of COVID-19, are on display at Fou Gallery starting Saturday.

The exhibition, which will be open to public until Dec. 19, features two new oil painting series Poster and Story in addition to the latest large oil painting "Rise From the Ashes," according to a press release from Fou Gallery.

JERUSALEM -- The total number of COVID-19 cases in Israel rose to 302,770 on Saturday after the addition of 874 new cases, marking a fifth consecutive day of decrease in the number of daily new cases, Israel's Ministry of Health said.

The death toll rose to 2,190, with 49 new fatalities, while the number of patients in serious condition decreased from 714 to 690, out of 1,210 patients currently hospitalized.

TEGUCIGALPA -- Honduras has registered over 2,500 deaths from the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) so far, the National Risk Management System reported on Saturday.

The organization stated that as of Friday night, 2,556 deaths and 86,691 cases have been registered in the country, and 34,546 people have recovered so far.

TUNIS -- Tunisian Health Ministry on Saturday night reported 5,752 new COVID-19 cases, raising the total number of infections to 40,542 including 626 deaths in the country.

The ministry recorded 901 hospitalized COVID-19 patients, said a ministry statement.

BERLIN -- German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier entered quarantine Saturday after one of his bodyguards tested positive for COVID-19, according to a spokeswoman for the president's office.

Steinmeier's first test was negative. Further tests are planned in the coming days.

LONDON -- The total number of coronavirus cases in Britain exceeded 700,000 after another 16,171 people in the country have tested positive for COVID-19, according to official figures released Saturday.

The latest development brought the total number of coronavirus cases in Britain to 705,428, and coronavirus-related deaths in the country rose by 150 to 43,579, the data showed. Enditem
