ISLAMABAD, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- An early morning land sliding in Skardu district of northern Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan has trapped a passenger van under the rubbles, sources from the region said on Sunday.

The van was carrying about 16 to 20 people and the local volunteers and rescue teams were trying to recover them from the rubbles, sources from the district told Xinhua.

The sources said that the van was on its way to the district from the country's eastern Rawalpindi district, and the passengers were local people and personnel from security forces who were on their way home to spend holidays.

"It was a massive landslide and the van was completely buried under it, so the chances of survival of the passengers are slim," the sources added. Enditem
