MEXICO CITY, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- Monterrey right-back Stefan Medina will be sidelined for up to a month after suffering a torn hamstring while on international duty with Colombia, the Mexican club said on Monday.

The 28-year-old sustained the injury during the first half of Colombia's 2-2 draw with Chile in their World Cup qualifier in Santiago last Tuesday.

"Stefan Medina has a grade two muscle strain in his right hamstring," read a Monterrey statement. "The estimated recovery time will be three to four weeks."

The injury means Los Cafeteros face a shortage of right-back options for their November World Cup qualifiers against Uruguay and Ecuador.

Medina was drafted into Carlos Queiroz's starting lineup against Chile after first-choice right back Santiago Arias suffered a fractured fibula in the team's 3-0 win over Venezuela on October 9.

Arias, who underwent surgery in Madrid last week, is expected to miss at least six months. Enditem
