HONG KONG -- Chief Executive of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Carrie Lam said Tuesday that both Hong Kong and Shenzhen have their own advantages, and Hong Kong needs to enhance its competitiveness to seek win-win results with Shenzhen.

MANILA -- The Philippines' Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday reported 1,640 new confirmed COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number in the country to 360,775.

The DOH said 369 more patients recovered, raising the total number of recoveries to 310,642. The death toll climbed to 6,690 after 17 more patients died from the viral disease.(Philippines-COVID-19)

KUALA LUMPUR -- Entrepreneurs from Malaysia and China were urged on Tuesday to strengthen cooperation and to tap into the opportunities in the post-COVID-19 economic recovery and the continued opening up of China.

VIENTIANE -- The Lao Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry is accelerating efforts to support pig farmers following two outbreaks of African swine fever (ASF) in the last two years.

According to local daily Vientiane Times on Tuesday, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Bounkhuang Khambounheuang said that Laos detected ASF on in May, 2019, and by November that year, the disease had spread to 170 villages in 57 districts of 18 provinces across the country.(Laos-African swine fever)

MAIDAN SHAR, Afghanistan -- Five Afghan civilians were killed and nine others wounded after two improvised bombs tore apart two vehicles in eastern Wardak province on Tuesday, a provincial government spokesman confirmed.

"The Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosions occurred in span of short time in Kota-e-Ashro locality of Jalrez district in the morning. The blasts took place after the vehicles touched off pressure-plate IEDs planted by Taliban militants recently along the main road," spokesman Muhibullah Sharifzai told Xinhua via phone.
