TEHRAN, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- The end of the United Nations' arms restriction on Iran is the result of the Iranian commitment to the 2015 international nuclear agreement, Iranian government's spokesman Ali Rabiei said on Tuesday at a press briefing.

"Iran's policy of not leaving the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) has now showed its good effects," Rabiei was quoted as saying by official news agency IRNA.

The Iranian policy has allowed Tehran to foil the United States's plan to reinstate the UNSC embargoes on Iran, and it will yield further positive results over time, he added.

Rabiei greeted the international community for "showing independence and non-compliance against U.S.' bullying," which he considered a new development in the international arena.

"Iran has no intention to fuel an arms race in the West Asia region after the end of the restrictions," he noted.

Years of arms embargoes have pushed Iran to reinforce its own defense industry, and the new situation will not change Tehran's course, added the spokesman.

On Sunday, Iran's Foreign Ministry issued a statement to mark the end of all restrictions imposed by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on weapons transfers to and from Iran, as established in 2015 by UNSC Resolution 2231. Enditem
