U.S. crude oil inventories up last week: API

HOUSTON, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- The American Petroleum Institute (API) on Tuesday reported an increase of 584,000 barrels of crude oil in the U.S. crude oil inventories for the week ending Oct. 16.

API reported a decrease of 5.422 million barrels of crude oil inventories for the previous week ending Oct. 9, while the U.S. Energy Information Administration reported a fall of 3.8 million barrels.

Oil prices climbed on Tuesday as traders awaited the U.S. crude stockpiles data.

The West Texas Intermediate for November delivery climbed 63 cents to settle at 41.46 U.S. dollars a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, on its expiration day. The more active December contract rose 64 cents to 41.70 dollars a barrel. Enditem
