TOKYO, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Wednesday following Wall Street's overnight lead on optimism that the U.S. Congress would reach an agreement on stimulus measures to help underpin the virus-hit U.S. economy.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 94.21 points, or 0.40 percent, from Tuesday to 23,661.25.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 16.45 points, or 1.01 percent, at 1,642.19.
