COVID-19 death toll in Argentina tops 27,000

BUENOS AIRES, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- Argentina reported 384 deaths from COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, bringing its death toll to 27,100, according to the Ministry of Health on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, a total of 16,337 new COVID-19 cases were reported in the past 24 hours, taking the national count to 1,018,999.

As of Monday, Argentina has become the fifth country in the world and the second in Latin America to register 1 million cases of COVID-19, after the United States, India, Brazil and Russia, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

Currently, there are 162,252 active cases in the country while 829,647 patients have recovered, according to the ministry. Enditem
