TOKYO, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks advanced Wednesday morning on renewed hopes for an agreement to be reached on U.S. stimulus measures, with the market mood also lifted by some firms upgrading earnings outlooks in a sign of recovery from the pandemic.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 109.86 points, or 0.47 percent, from Tuesday to 23,676.90.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 14.42 points, or 0.89 percent, at 1,640.16.
Mining, marine transportation, and iron and steel issues comprised those that gained the most by the morning break. Enditem
