VIENTIANE, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- China's Geely Technology Group on Tuesday signed here a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on new energy and electric vehicle project cooperation with the Lao state-run enterprise Electricite Du Laos (EDL) and local company Krittaphong Group.

The Geely side's general representative in Laos, Wen Feng said at the signing ceremony that Geely is optimistic about the market and investment environment in Laos, and believes that its new energy business will help boost the local economic development and contribute to Laos' energy industry and environment protection.

The Acting Managing Director of EDL, Chanthaboun Soukaloun said he hopes that the MoU signing will lay a good foundation for further cooperation between the three parties.

The tripartite cooperation will promote the use of clean energy in Laos, reduce fuel import demand, and help Laos achieve industrial transformation and upgrading, he said.

Lao Minister of Energy and Mines, Khammany Inthirath, said the Lao government encourages the use of clean energy to reduce pollution, to improve the quality of people's life, and to promote an energy-efficient, green and sustainable development.

Chinese Ambassador to Laos, Jiang Zaidong, expressed hope that the advancement of the Geely project will help solve the bottleneck problems in Laos' national development, and that the tripartite cooperation will run as scheduled and successfully.

The project is intended for the use of new energy vehicles in the four major city and town clusters in Laos, investment in building a new energy service system, serving the Lao people better with smart travel, and setting a benchmark for the operation of new energy vehicles in Laos, Krittaphong Group told Xinhua on Wednesday.

Geely Technology Group, focused on businesses such as new energy and travel services, is under Geely Holding Group, a Chinese privately held multinational company. Enditem
