Afghanistan opens first paper production plant to meet annual demand

KABUL, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- The first-ever paper production factory with the objective to meet annual demand for paper in Afghanistan was opened in the capital city Kabul on Tuesday, reported Wadsam, a local online business news agency on Wednesday.

According to the report, the factory has the potential of producing over 120 tons of paper on a daily basis.

The plant with more than 200 staff and workers, in addition to importing raw material from abroad also collects and recycles up to 15 tons of wasted paper a day, the news agency added.

Although there is no official statistics about the annual need of paper in Afghanistan, according to Wadsam report, the cash-striped and foreign-aid depending country needs more than 10,000 tons paper annually, most of which imported from abroad. Enditem
