THE HAGUE, Netherland, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- Dutch soccer side AZ stepped on the plane to Naples on Wednesday for the Europa League tie against Napoli without 13 players who tested positive for COVID-19 in recent days.

On Tuesday, AZ announced a total of eight new novel coronavirus infections in the squad, which brought the total number of infected players to 13. Last Friday, eight players tested positive, of which three tested negative on Tuesday.

The European football association UEFA decided that the Europa League match against Napoli on Thursday in Naples has to go through, unless local authorities prohibit the match. Therefore AZ packed their bags for the trip to Italy with a squad of 19 players, including several players from the under-21 team.

For privacy reasons AZ did not reveal the names of the 13 infected players. Among the absentees for the Europa League trip are striker Myron Boadu and defender Timo Letschert. Enditem
