BEIRUT, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- Lebanese President Michel Aoun warned on Wednesday of the impact of profound political changes happening in the region on Lebanon.
Aoun called for "Lebanon not to be receptive and ineffective in what we are witnessing, so as it becomes a tool used by others to meet their major interests and agreements."
"Lebanon was part of a large system within the framework of the League of Arab States and in the context of a unified position, while today the positions of the main countries in the League have changed with regard to basic issues, and we will gradually become isolated noting that we are the smallest Arab state," the president said.
"Our region has witnessed many profound political changes as a result of regional and international factors, and these changes have not yet shown all their results while things may turn upside down," he said.
On the other hand, Aoun indicated that corruption has become rooted in the Lebanese system, calling on parliament members to name a prime minister capable of addressing corruption issues and launching necessary reforms. Enditem
