JAKARTA -- Landslides hit a coal mine in Indonesia's western province of South Sumatra on Wednesday afternoon, a senior disaster agency official said Thursday.

The incident took place in an unlicensed mine located in Tanjung Lalang village of Muara Enim district at about 16:00 p.m. local time Wednesday, said Iriansyah, head of operational and emergency unit of the Provincial Disaster Management Agency. (Indonesia-Mine-Landslides)

WASHINGTON -- U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Wednesday pressed for immediate negotiations between Washington and Moscow to finalize a verifiable agreement as the two sides seem moving closer to extend a key nuclear arms control treaty.

"Russia has agreed in principle to freeze all of its nuclear warheads ... But we need to make sure that U.S. and Russian negotiators get together just as soon as possible to continue to make progress to finalize a verifiable agreement," Pompeo told reporters at a state department press briefing. SAO PAULO -- Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro on Wednesday inaugurated the assembly phase of a reactor developed for the country's first nuclear-powered submarine, the Alvaro Alberto.

TRIPOLI -- The International Organization for Migration (IOM) said Wednesday that at least 15 illegal immigrants died in a shipwreck off Libya's western coast, while five survivors were brought to shore by fishermen.
