DAMASCUS, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- A drone attack targeted a meeting of rebel commanders in Syria's northwestern province of Idlib on Thursday evening, killing 15 people, including a civilian, a war monitor reported.

The attack was believed to be carried out by the U.S.-led anti-terror coalition, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

It targeted commanders of the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), the umbrella group of the al-Qaida-linked Nusra Front, while they were having a dinner banquet in the village of Jakara in the countryside of Idlib near the Syrian-Turkish border, it said.

The attack also wounded some of the commanders, added the UK-based watchdog group.

On Oct. 15, a similar drone attack targeted a vehicle in the western countryside of Idlib, killing two rebels and a child.

Idlib has emerged as the last major rebel stronghold in Syria, with the HTS having the upper hand among other rebel groups in the region. Enditem
