BEIJING, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

PARIS -- France's Public Health Agency on Thursday evening reported 41,661 new COVID-19 infections in the last 24 hours, a new record after Saturday's 32,427.

The cumulative total infections now stand at 999,043, according to the agency. With a one-day increase of 162 deaths, 34,210 people have died from the virus-caused disease.

LOS ANGELES -- The upcoming 16th Chinese American Film Festival and Chinese American TV Festival will become an all-digital event next month due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the organizers said Thursday.

It's the first time in history for the Chinese American Film Festival and Chinese American TV Festival to be held virtually. Founded in 2005 by EDI Media Inc., Chinese American Film Festival is an annual China-U.S. cultural event held in Los Angeles to connect two of world's largest film markets.

SANTIAGO -- Chile has administered over 4 million PCR tests for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), making it first in Latin America for tests administered, Health Minister Enrique Paris said Thursday.

Paris stated that 20 percent of the national population has been tested, "so Chile closely follows countries such as New Zealand, Sweden, and the Netherlands," with a rate of 207,000 PCR tests per million inhabitants.

QUITO -- Ecuador should brace for possible new novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreaks in the wake of holiday celebrations, Minister of Public Health Juan Carlos Zevallos said on Thursday.

"Yes, there are going to be waves (of outbreaks), but not the apocalyptic waves that have been forecast by some specialists," Zevallos said in an interview with a local radio station.

OTTAWA -- As the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases continued rising across Canada, many provinces once again urged their residents to follow safety guidelines and restrict social interactions.

Canada reported 2,025 new cases of COVID-19 and another 25 deaths, bringing the total to 208,447 cases and 9,862 deaths, according to CTV.

TEGUCIGALPA -- Honduras has registered 91,078 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and 2,596 deaths, according to the latest official report on the pandemic.

Figures released by the National Risk Management System (Sinager) said the fatality rate stood at 2.86 percent and some 36,341 former COVID-19 sufferers in Honduras have recovered from the disease.

ANKARA -- Turkey reported 2,102 new COVID-19 patients on Thursday, raising the total diagnosed patients to 355,528, the Turkish Health Ministry announced.

Meanwhile, 71 people died in the past 24 hours, taking the death toll to 9,584.

RABAT -- Morocco on Thursday reported 4,151 new COVID-19 cases, the biggest single-day increase so far, taking the number of infections in the country since March 2 to 186,731.

The total number of recoveries from COVID-19 in Morocco increased to 154,481 after 2,847 new ones were added, the ministry of health said in a statement. Enditem
