S. Korea reports 155 more COVID-19 cases, 25,698 in total

SEOUL, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- South Korea reported 155 more cases of the COVID-19 as of 0:00 a.m. Friday local time compared to 24 hours ago, raising the total number of infections to 25,698.

The daily caseload stayed above 100 for straight days, marking the highest figure in 42 days since Sept. 11 due to small cluster infections in Seoul and its surrounding Gyeonggi province as well as imported cases.

Of the new cases, 19 were Seoul residents and 98 were people residing in Gyeonggi province.

Seventeen were imported from overseas, lifting the combined figure to 3,616.

Two more deaths were confirmed, leaving the death toll at 455. The total fatality rate stood at 1.77 percent.

A total of 70 more patients were discharged from quarantine after making full recovery, pulling up the combined number to 23,717. The total recovery rate was 92.29 percent.

Since Jan. 3, the country has tested more than 2.52 million people, among whom 2,482,493 tested negative for the virus and 20,430 are being checked. Enditem
