TOKYO, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks were essentially flat Friday morning as investors tuned in and digested the final U.S. presidential debate for potential leads about economic or other policy initiatives.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 49.68 points, or 0.21 percent, from Thursday to 23,523.95.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, edged up 0.12 point, or 0.01 percent, at 1,619.91.

Rubber product and air transportation issues led notable gainers, while precision instrument and service issues comprised those that declined the most by the morning break. Enditem
