German shares almost unchanged at the start of trading on Friday

BERLIN, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- German stocks were almost unchanged at the start of trading on Friday, with the benchmark DAX index losing 25.08 points, or 0.2 percent, opening at 12,517.98 points.

The biggest winner among Germany's 30 largest listed companies at the start of trading was carmaker Daimler, increasing by 1.67 percent, followed by aircraft engine manufacturer MTU Aero Engines with 1.10 percent and chemical and industrial gas producer Linde with 1.0 percent.

On Friday, Daimler announced that EBIT increased by 14 percent year-on-year to around 3.1 billion euros (3.7 billion U.S. dollars) in the third quarter of 2020, reflecting a "good performance based on improving markets and strong products."

Shares of Infineon fell by 1.32 percent. The German chipmaker was the biggest loser at the start of trading on Friday.

New orders in Germany's main construction industry in August increased by 3.4 percent on the previous month but declined by 0.3 percent compared to last year, the country's Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) announced on Friday.

The yield on German ten-year bonds went down 0.009 percentage points to minus 0.577 percent, and the euro was trading almost unchanged at 1.1822 U.S. dollars, increasing by 0.02 percent on Friday morning. Enditem
